Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana have reinvented themselves several times as a choreography duo in their rich, steady development. In the early years, the emphasis was on creating a contemporary dance language, inspired by and reflecting developments in science and technology. In the years that followed, dance became increasingly emphasized as a platform for encounters between artists and audiences from different disciplines, movements, ages, cultures, etc.: the historicity of the performing artist became part of the concept of the performance.
Performances followed with dance artists of all ages and backgrounds and music from all corners of the globe and eras, performed live and often with commissioned compositions. Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana are (guest) lecturers at conservatories, dance academies, and universities in the Netherlands and abroad. LeineRoebana has worked with composers Tan Dun, Iwan Gunawan, and Kate Moore, musicians violinist Liza Ferschtman, guitarist Wiek Hijmans, lutenist David Mackor, singer Elisabeth Hetherington, and many others.
In addition to productions for the theater, LeineRoebana creates performances at special locations such as LOST INTIMACY in a former industrial building or monastery and for festivals such as Wonderfeel, Terug naar Het Begin, and Oerol. In 2023, Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana received the Prijs van Verdienste (Award of Merit) from Dansersfonds '79, one of the largest and most important dance awards in the Netherlands: “for their exceptionally valuable choreographic oeuvre, but also for their courage, their tremendous inner drive, and their unstoppable passion for dance and music.”
