Cerita Kita – Recap (18 October 2024, Felix Meritis)

This recap shows Cerita Kita - Our Stories, a multidisciplinary program curated by Cheroney Pelupessy at Felix Meritis, Amsterdam. Cerita Kita brings together creators and performers from the Indonesian and Moluccan diaspora to reveal stories, rhythms, and connections between generations.

This edition was entirely devoted to the female line – a tribute to the mothers, grandmothers, and foremothers who came before us. Photos of the (fore)mothers of all the performers were displayed in the hall, making their presence a tangible part of the evening.

The audience followed a route through the entire building, guided by the rhythm of the tifa, with a different performance taking place in each room. This not only put the performers' stories center stage, but also decolonized the historical architecture of Felix Meritis.

Cheroney used the theme of her solo Rindu - the umbilical cord as a symbol of origin, connection, and that which is passed on - as the connecting thread for the dramaturgy of this edition.

The program included various art forms, including dance, singing, Tifa, Pencak Silat Senin, Tari Bali, Tari Jawa, and Gamelan, each of which honored our shared heritage and the generations before us in their own way.
